Pneumonia

Pneumonia is a condition where the lungs get seriously infected due to a variety of agents such as viruses, bacteria, fungi or parasites. In this condition, the air sacs present in the inflamed lung get filled with mucus and pus. Although it can occur to people one at any age, it is usually seen in people above 65 years of age or in children below 2 years.

Symptoms:

• Inflammation, mucus & pus in the air sacs of the lungs
• Fever
• Chills
• Cough
• Pain in the chest
• Sore throat
• Muscle aches
• Bloody sputum
• At times, pneumonia can progress to both lungs

Food groups to consume in piles:

1. Antioxidants: Boosts the immune system & help fight the 
     infection better

Foods to consume: Apples, pineapples, oranges, papaya, strawberries, watermelon, carrots, capsicums, beetroots, broccoli and spinach


2. Liquids: Help expel mucus from lungs

Foods to consume: Spinach juice, wheatgrass juice, warm water with honey, broths & soups

Tips:

• Avoid foods that weaken the immune system such as meat, 
   sugar, white flour, alcohol, coffee and tea
• Refrain from foods that aid mucus production. This includes: 
   chocolates &  like dairy products such as milk, yogurt &
   cottage cheese
• Make sure to drink at least 2-4 liters of water every day since 
   this will flush out the toxins from your body
